Countertops and appliances
Countertops
- Choose the Countertops tab in the right-hand panel.
- Select a wall or island, then click + Add to Wall N.
The new countertop covers that wall's base cabinets. Click Edit on it to change:
Against a wall: Front OH, Left OH, Right OH (how far the slab overhangs the cabinets it covers, measured from any finished end panel), Thick, Material
On an island: Front OH, Back OH, Left OH, Right OH (the back overhang is where seating goes), Thick, Material
On a peninsula: the same as against a wall, plus Back OH for seating or to cover the finished back panel (enter at least the panel's thickness)
At the corner where a peninsula meets another run, one countertop runs through the corner. It follows the peninsula's Back OH automatically, so the overhang carries on to the corner. To set that piece on its own, use its Left OH or Right OH on the peninsula side.
A side marked at wall runs to the end of the wall. Its number is the distance from the last cabinet to the wall. Leave it as it is to keep the top against the wall, or type a smaller number to pull it back.
A wall countertop with no cabinets under it shows Pos, Length and Depth instead.
Click Save. You can also drag or resize a countertop in the Plan view.
Material
Material is a list of finishes: stone, white or grey quartz, Calacatta or Carrara marble, black or salt & pepper granite, soapstone, butcher block and white laminate. The finish shows on the slab in the 3D view and as its colour in the Plan and Front views. It doesn't change any sizes. A material typed before the list existed is kept and shown as (custom).
Countertops are drawn and dimensioned but not added to the cut list. You don't cut stone on a router.
Sink and cooktop holes are set per cabinet in the cabinet editor, under Countertop cutout.
Appliances
Appliances are placeholder blocks that reserve space, so the cabinets around them come out right. They are not added to the cut list.
- Choose the Appliances tab in the right-hand panel.
- Pick the Type: Refrigerator, Range, Oven + cooktop, Microwave, Dishwasher or TV.
- Pick the Wall (or leave it Unplaced).
- Leave W / H / D blank for standard sizes, or enter the model's real size.
- Click + Add appliance.
Drag it into place in the Plan or Front view. Click edit to change its name, type or size.
TV
For a TV wall, pick TV and a Size from 32″ to 98″. The size sets the width, height and depth of a typical set that size, and the TV hangs with the middle of the screen 42 in off the floor. In the appliance editor, Standard size changes it later, or choose Custom and enter your set's exact size.
A TV sits between the tall cabinets either side of it. A 65″ hung at 42 in has its bottom edge at about 25½ in, so over a full-height base cabinet it won't fit: raise its Mount height, or use a lower cabinet underneath.
Use the appliance maker's spec sheet, not the "nominal" size. A "36 in" fridge is often 35¾ in wide and needs extra room to open the door.
Fridge surround
The Fridge surround preset (under Appliance in the Add panel) builds the cabinet around a fridge: a cabinet above it, capped at the room's ceiling height. Set the ceiling height before you add one.
